Heinlein (nacido este día de 1907 y fallecido en 1988) fue conocido como el decano de los escritores de ciencia ficción y el padre de la "ciencia ficción dura", priorizando la precisión científica sobre la fantasía literaria. Su obra épica de 1968, "Forastero en tierra extraña", se considera una obra maestra del género de la ciencia ficción: la historia de un humano criado por extraterrestres incorpóreos que posteriormente se convierte en una controvertida figura religiosa en la Tierra.

Heinlein, nacido en Misuri y graduado de la Academia Naval de los Estados Unidos, también fue conocido por abordar complejos temas sociales, interpersonales y religiosos. Además, promovió un individualismo feroz y un notorio desprecio por el marxismo y el comunismo, ideologías que, según él, obstaculizaban las libertades individuales. Al escritor también se le atribuye la creación del género "Marine Espacial" con su novela de ciencia ficción militar, Starship Troopers .
