High schooler Tohru has been living with her extended family ever since her mother died in a car crash. When her family is unkind to her, Tohru strikes out on her own and ends up living in a tent on a certain family's property. That family is the Sohma clan and they live with a curse: all twelve family members are possessed by the spirits of the Chinese zodiac animals...and will turn into those animals if someone of the opposite gender hugs them. When Tohru finds out their secret, she promises not to tell anyone and moves in with them, changing each of their lives one by one.
