Neighborhood Science Safety Rules

Follow these guidelines to ensure your safety and the safety of others while using the Neighborhood Science kits.

1. Always wear safety gear such as goggles and gloves during observations
2. When possible, wear sunscreen, hat, insect repellent and long sleeves when conducting observations outdoors
3. Handle observation equipment and tools carefully
4. Watch your step and surroundings when photographing your observations outdoors
5. Do not remove batteries from equipment unless replacement is needed. Place the drained batteries into the “Spare Batteries” pouch (if included) for recycling
6. Do not leave your materials unattended
7. Wash your hands with soap and water when you are finished
8. Please follow the instructions to clean and dry all equipment and tools after use
9. Discard the disposable gloves in the kit after use
10. Put all equipment and unused supplies back into the kit and return it to the library
11. Recycle any consumed materials or supplies after use
